National Security and Counterterrorism
There has long been a tension between reporting by journalists on matters of national security and the government’s concern to protect legitimate national security concerns. National security is increasingly relied upon as a justification for interference with access to the internet and the right to freedom of expression more broadly.
These modules provide an overview of the intersection of national security and freedom of expression, along with an analysis of legislation relied on by states to restrict reporting.
