Wiebke Hangst

Wiebke joined Media Defence in 2023 as a Legal Officer. Prior to this, she completed a two-year traineeship to qualify as a lawyer in Germany. During that time, she worked in different work placements, including an asylum law firm, the German Mission to the United Nations and an NGO which litigates strategic cases to strengthen constitutional rights. Wiebke has also interned for other human rights organisations, focussing on questions relating to torture and unlawful detention.

She holds a BA in political science and ethnology as well as a law degree from Heidelberg University, Germany, and an MA in Human Rights Law from the School of Oriental and African Studies, UK.
