Introducing Breaking Ground: A New Impact Series from Media Defence

Media Defence is launching Breaking Ground, a new Impact Series that explores how our work, and that of our partners, is making a tangible difference for press freedom around the world. Each post will spotlight a case, initiative, or partnership demonstrating the real-world impact of legal defence and support for journalists and independent media.

The series opens with a look at Ripostes, the first legal aid fund dedicated to supporting independent media in France. Established by the Fonds pour une Presse Libre and Media Defence, the fund was created in response to a rising number of “gag lawsuits” against French journalists.

Read the first case study, Ripostes: Fighting SLAPPs in France, and look out for further spotlights in the Breaking Ground series in the coming months.
