Event Synopsis

In light of the launch of our latest legal resources on litigating Digital Rights, join us for our upcoming event, Ctrl+Alt+Defend: Exploring Legal Strategies Against Online Harassment of Journalists” focusing on a particularly virulent area of digital rights, online violence.

This session will highlight effective legal strategies to combat the rising issue of online violence against journalists, particularly women. A recent global study reveals that 73% of women journalists have faced online violence linked to their work, including threats and digital security attacks. This violence often causes significant psychological harm and can extend offline, with many perpetrators escaping justice, which perpetuates a cycle of impunity.

This event aims to facilitate a peer discussion on the practical approaches and legal strategies for addressing these challenges and will also showcase our new legal modules on this topic. Learn from the experiences of lawyers from different regions as they share their insights and strategies for litigating online violence cases.

Our expert panel includes Yuri Marchenko, Senior Legal Officer from Media Defence, Romanian Human Rights Lawyer, Vlad Dan Oanea, who represents journalist Emilia Șercan, and Doreen Abiero, Advocate of the High Court in Kenya and women’s digital rights defender. They will discuss their experiences, challenges, and successes in this critical area of law.

The event will feature engaging discussions and practical sessions designed to equip lawyers with the tools and knowledge needed to effectively combat online violence.

Event Highlights:

Introduction to New Legal Training Modules: Discover our latest resources focusing on online violence and harassment.
