Vacancy: Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Officer

We are recruiting for a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Officer to join our small, friendly team based in Vauxhall, South London. 

The Media Legal Defence Initiative is a charity that helps journalists defend their rights. For ten years we have supported independent media, journalists and bloggers who are under legal threat by ensuring that lawyers are available to defend them. We engage in strategic litigation to improve the regulatory environment for media freedom, make grants to organisations in various countries to run media defence programmes, and build the capacity of the lawyers and organisations we work with on issues of media law.

Salary range: £23,500 - £29,500
Location: MLDI, the Foundry, 17 Oval Way, London SE11 5RR
Hours: 37.5 hours (flexible), occasional evening and weekend work. International travel up to 6 weeks/year.

Role Summary 

The Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Officer is a key role at MLDI. We are looking for a creative and proactive individual to lead the collection and analysis of monitoring, evaluation and learning data from our different programmes of work. If you are passionate about human rights and excited about data, and if you are seeking a hands-on experience of designing and implementing evaluation projects, then this is the job for you.

In this role, you will develop and design creative and suitable evaluation plans and projects that will collect useful and reliable data on the effectiveness and impact of our work, you will lead on-site partner evaluations in countries around the world, and you will communicate findings in clear and engaging ways. You will be responsible for preparing regular key performance indicator monitoring reports to the senior management team and for making use of our grants database (Gifts online) to extract data to support decision-making. You will provide vital data on the impact of our work for use in funding applications and donor reports.
