“Solve 17-Year-Old Murder of Journalist”, Campaigners Demand

MLDI and a coalition of free speech campaigners from around the world have joined forces to reopen the investigation into the murder of an Indonesian journalist 17 years ago. They have written to two UN Special Rapporteurs asking them to press the Indonesian authorities for action before the case lapses in August 2014.

MLDI Intervenes in David Miranda High Court Challenge

The High Court is hearing the judicial review application of David Miranda in relation to his detention earlier this year under the Terrorism Act 2000. The Media Legal Defence Initiative together with Article 19 and English PEN intervened in the case, arguing that Mr Miranda’s detention under Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act was in violation of international human rights law.

MLDI petitions AU, UN to free Ethiopian bloggers

On World Press Freedom Day 2014, MLDI has petitioned the United Nations and African Union to address the arbitrary arrest and detention of nine Ethiopian bloggers, journalists and human rights defenders.
