Media Development Center

The Media Development Center (MDC) is a civil society organization focussed on promoting a positive climate of media freedom within the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. The MDC is a successor organization to the former Macedonian Press Center, having taken over its legal program upon seccession. The MDC's diverse roster of activities is focussed on creating a pluralistic and self-sustainable media sector, free from all political influence and compliant with EU standards.

In achieving this objective, the MDC has focussed on projects aiding the legal defence of journalists and media organizations through its in-house legal team, and through the analysis and formation of alternative media policies as the means of promoting dialogue about press freedom. This includes publishing reports on the status of media freedom following periods of observing specific situations. The MDC has also organized public events promoting these objectives, including the 2016 debate on "Online News Media and Media Legislation" and the regional conference “Media and Public Interest – Risks and Challenges”.
