[Now closed]: Special Call: Digital Rights Advancement Grants

We are seeking to partner with NGOs, law centres and/or independent media outlets in East, West, and Southern Africa to advance digital rights and freedom of expression online. A limited number of one-off grants are available for short-term, pilot projects that contribute to better local level access to legal assistance and support to online independent media. The deadline to submit a concept note is Thursday, 9 August 2018 at 23h59 (GMT+1).

Arbitrary detention of journalists in Viet Nam

Last month the award-winning Vietnamese blogger and human rights lawyer Nguyễn Văn Đài was released from prison in Viet Nam and exiled to Germany. Meanwhile we filed a petition with the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention this week calling for the release of video citizen journalist Nguyễn Văn Hoá.

Court increases damages award to journalist attacked with baseball bats

On 6 July 2018 the Higher Court in Podgorica handed down a judgment increasing an award of damages made by the Basic Court of Podgorica against the Montenegrin state for failing to carry out an effective investigation into an attack on well-known investigative journalist Tufik Softic.
