international law.\u00a0 Article 12 of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/EN\/UDHR\/Documents\/UDHR_Translations\/eng.pdf\">Universal Declaration of Human Rights<\/a> provides that: \u201cNo one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation.\u00a0 Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks.\u201d[footnote]UN General Assembly, \u2018Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Resolution 217 A (III)\u2019 (1948) (accessible at: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/EN\/UDHR\/Documents\/UDHR_Translations\/eng.pdf\">https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/EN\/UDHR\/Documents\/UDHR_Translations\/eng.pdf<\/a>).[\/footnote] This is echoed in identical words in article 17 of the ICCPR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Therefore, as indicated above, a balance often needs to be found between protecting individuals from false and harmful attacks on their reputation on the one hand and freedom of expression and the public\u2019s right to information on the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
